Southern Brewing Company

pilsen gold concept & can design

In 1842, in the town of Pilsen (Plzeň) in what is now the Czech Republic, brewer Josef Groll introduced the first golden ‘pilsner’ lager, and changed the brewing world forever. That beer is one of the most celebrated beers in history, and in 2022, Southern Brewing Company brewed their own.

As a true to style Pilsner, this can design needed a true to style look.

back2back ipa & football ipa series

The Bulldogs pulled off Back 2 Back National Championship titles, and Southern Brewing Company made the perfect IPA to celebrate it.

This series was so fun to be a part of. To time everything right, I designed the label well ahead of the championship game just in case the Dawgs pulled it off. Balancing traditional football imagery with bold Bulldog-inspired colors, I created a design that captured game-day energy without using any trademarked UGA elements.

The beer was so well received that we made an entire series dedicated to our town and our team.

Southern hops five

The Southern Hops Series was a line of limited-release IPAs that focused on special selection hops and art from local artists for can design. I was chosen to make Southern Hops Five, a collaboration with Biggerstaff Brewing.

The design was inspired by the wonderfully weird spirit of craft beer culture. Using layered collage and bold composition I wanted to create a can that’s as adventurous as the beer inside. The funky design helped the beer stand out on crowded retail shelves.
